In an Avalon rehearsal one day Paddy played a guitar piece of his that he said he had trouble turning into a song, almost as if he had washed his hair and couldn't do a thing with it! I asked if I could give it a go and turn it into something we could use - cos his guitar thing on this was sooo good - and he agreed. When written it was put in the set. A link to Avalons live version can be found on pge 2 of this site - left side near bottom of page, or below myspace page

Fast forwarding to 2012 and Scott McPherson smartened the song up, adding some new lyrics

and producing a lovely version for the SPROUTLESS album 'Insights From Retrospect' (2013). Performers include Scott himself (on incredibly very Paddy-like vocal), playing guitars and harmonica plus Andrea Perry on excellent Wendy-like vocals, Neil Conti (ex-prefab sprout, say no more!) on drums, Gary Isaacs on double bass, Sean Timms (formerly of Unitopia but now Southern Empire) on piano and keyboards. The entire thing was joined up over the internet! All the musicians put their talents in to make 'Coming Home' a lovely piece of music. I  still maintain it was written by the 3 Macs, 'McPherson - Mc Calvey - McAloon' and will do so until the lawyers track me down! (Then there will be a full retraction and much grovelling) Here is the Sproutless version

One of the original songsheets used to rehearse 'Coming Home' from.Written out in my own fair hand in 1977.When presenting a song I always did enough copies for each band member to have at rehearsal. (not sure they EVER looked at them, though!)
